PREGNANCY RITUAL
Perhaps one of the most overlooked aspects of birth preparation is the nervous system of the mother.
Through sensory touch, therapeutic holding, massage, breath and bodywork, you are nurtured, supported and held as you prepare for motherhood.
WHY YOU ARE IN SAFE HANDS
Far more than a traditional pregnancy massage, Robyn weaves together therapeutic holding, gentle movement, breath and bodywork, to create an experience that supports both body and nervous system in equal measure.
With a background of 15 years supporting women through pregnancy and beyond, Robyn holds a Master’s degree in Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation and extensive training in pregnancy, postpartum rehabilitation, massage, touch therapy and breathwork.
Every Pregnancy Ritual is individually adapted to support both your changing body and the nervous system supporting it.
THE MOTHER COMES FIRST
So much is prepared for the baby.
Yet one of the most important things is often overlooked.
The nervous system of the mother.
Because long before a baby understands words, they experience the world through her touch, her voice, her breathing, her emotions and her presence.
A mother’s nervous system helps shape a baby’s earliest environment. Its influence can be felt far beyond pregnancy, helping shape a child’s earliest experiences of safety, connection and belonging.
This ritual is an opportunity to nurture the person through whom they will first experience the world.
Enter the Cocoon…
THE ARRIVAL
Step inside the cocoon and settle into your seat as a warm neck wrap is placed around your shoulders, allowing them to fall away from your ears.
Take a sip from your chosen herbal tea as we take a moment to reflect on your pregnancy journey so far - how you’ve been feeling, what support you need most right now, and how I can tailor the ritual to your individual needs and preferences.
This is your time to arrive, exhale, and be cared for before the ritual begins.
THE GROUNDING
Feet lower into warm water as it is slowly poured over tired, hard-working soles.
Notice the warmth of soft towels, the subtle scent of essential oils and the beauty of rose petals drifting around your toes.
Each element is layered…
Inviting your senses to settle and your whole body to begin to exhale.
THE SHEDDING
Your body begins to move.
Not exercise, but instinctive, breath-led movement - natural and unforced.
Many relaxation practices ask the body to become still before it is ready.
Here is an opportunity to release excess energy, shed the weight of the outside world and create space in areas of the body that habitually brace, grip or hold tension.
Rocking.
Swaying.
Breathing.
Gentle spinal waves.
Pelvic tilts.
Soft, flowing movements designed to create space within a body that is carrying so much.
A way of releasing tension from the hips, pelvis, ribcage and spine, creating space for ease, breath and movement.
These same movements are often used throughout labour, helping you build familiarity with the rhythms of your body before birth.
THE HOLDING
As the experience deepens, the floor space becomes a place of slowing down.
Touch becomes immersive, rhythmic and beautifully caring, and your body begins to drop into a deeper state of regulation.
Most women rarely get to experience being held and cared for in this way.
Hair play.
Cradling.
Rocking.
Swaying.
Fabric-assisted rocking and gentle bodywork.
Breath moving with breath.
This is co-regulation at its deepest level - one nervous system settling in the presence of another.
Where the nervous system settles through rhythm, slowness, flow, connection and a devotional presence.
THE DESCENT
The experience deepens further and an optional, regulation-focused pregnancy massage unfolds.
A slow descent out of your mind and back into your body.
Attention naturally lingers where pregnancy often asks the most of us.
Gentle, skilled bodywork encourages areas of bracing to soften.
Creating more space to breathe, move and rest.
This is often the moment you realise how long it has been since someone cared for you.
Tears may come. Deep sighs, stillness or sleep.
It is all welcome here.
FEATHERLIGHT
The experience transitions into sensory touch.
Fingertips, nails, feathers, wooden scalp combs and soft brushes drift slowly across the skin.
Gentle, slow, intentional touch that creates waves of sensation
Tingles travelling from spine to scalp
For some, this can feel incredibly soothing.
Others may prefer deeper touch.
Everything is guided by choice.
In a season where so much attention is focused on caring for the baby, Featherlight offers a rare opportunity to simply receive.
THE COCOON
At the heart of the ritual is the cocoon.
Held within layers of soft fabric while the body is gently supported.
Rocked
Contained
Held
A moment for complete surrender.
Visualisations and affirmations are woven throughout.
Offering words of reassurance, trust and encouragement as you prepare for the journey ahead.
There is something both symbolic and physiological here.
The cocoon reflects transformation -
a transition, a becoming.
But it also offers something the nervous system recognises instantly.
Rhythm,
Containment.
Gentle movement.
Proprioceptive and vestibular input -
working together to bring the body into a state of safety.
A subtle echo of the womb…
our first experience of being held.
THE EMERGENCE
There is no need to rush back into the outside world.
Infused water and a small nourishing snack is offered.
Stillness.
For those who wish to carry this feeling beyond the ritual, simple pregnancy self-care practices may be shared with you afterwards - breathwork, guided movement and self-massage techniques.
Tools you can return to throughout the remainder of your pregnancy and into labour itself, helping you feel more connected to your body and confident in your ability to support yourself through the journey ahead.
You leave feeling more connected to yourself and your baby.
Often with a renewed sense of trust in the body that has carried you this far.
This state of softness, safety and surrender is often considered one of the most supportive places from which to approach birth.
WOVEN THROUGHOUT THE RITUAL
FOR YOUR BODY
-
An opening ritual which helps ease the transition from the outside world.
Warm water signals to the body that it is safe to slow down.
A gentle foot cleanse and massage, is combined with soothing aromas and comforting sensory elements.
-
A gentle blend of rocking, swaying, breath-led movement, stretching and mobility.
Many relaxation practices ask the body to become still before it is ready.
This part of the ritual provides an opportunity to release excess energy, shed the weight of the outside world and create space in areas of the body have become restricted during pregnancy.
There is no performance or exercise here - only an invitation to move in a way that feels natural, supportive and freeing.
Often used throughout labour, these movements help foster familiarity, confidence and trust in your body’s innate wisdom.
-
Performed fully-clothed, this therapeutic bodywork uses targeted hands-on techniques to restore comfort and support the physical changes of pregnancy.
It combines gentle movement, positioning, and specialised techniques to create space in areas that have become restricted, overworked or disconnected during pregnancy.
Particular attention is given to areas such as the pelvis, hips, ribcage and diaphragm, depending on the needs of your body.
You may choose to receive both perinatal bodywork and a full body massage. However, for those who choose not to receive the full body massage, this element can be used as a standalone form of therapeutic support within this ritual.
-
Designed to create a deep sense of comfort, rest and ease within the body.
Unlike traditional pregnancy massage, this element focuses on areas that play an important role in stress, tension and nervous system regulation.
Particular attention may be given to the jaw, scalp, base of the neck, shoulders, hands, ribcage, diaphragm and hips, depending on the needs of your body.
Long, flowing strokes are combined with slower, more intentional techniques to encourage the body to shift from a state of doing into a state of rest.
These areas are often where we unconsciously hold tension, and many are closely connected to breathing patterns, posture and the body’s natural relaxation responses.
Every massage is adapted to your individual needs, preferences and comfort levels.
-
Breath is far more than a relaxation tool.
Guided breathing practices are used to improve ribcage mobility, restore healthy breathing mechanics and encourage a more balanced relationship between the diaphragm, core and pelvic floor.
These foundations can have a profound impact on comfort, movement and body awareness throughout pregnancy whilst also providing valuable skills for labour and postnatal recovery.
-
Gentle mobility flows and self-massage techniques - personalised to your body - with be provided.
Simple practices to help create more comfort, ease and freedom of movement throughout pregnancy whilst building confidence in your ability to support yourself.
Designed to support you beyond the ritual, many can be returned to during labour as familiar tools for comfort, movement and connection.
FOR YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM
-
Therapeutic Holding is a deeply nurturing form of touch therapy combining cradling, rocking, rhythmic movement, supportive holds and sensory touch.
Drawing on the principles of co-regulation, it helps the body settle through rhythm, containment and connection - encouraging a deep sense of safety, comfort and being held.
A rare opportunity to soften, surrender and experience being cared for in a way that many prenatal women rarely receive.
-
At the heart of the ritual is the belief that when a mother feels safe, supported and regulated, everything else becomes a little easier.
Science-informed practices are woven throughout the experience to support the nervous system and encourage a state of calm, safety and connection.
This state of regulation not only influences how we experience daily life, but is also considered one of the most supportive foundations from which to approach labour and birth.
-
One of the most powerful tools you can carry beyond the ritual, supporting nervous system regulation throughout pregnancy and offering a familiar anchor to return to during labour and birth.
-
Gentle sensory touch can have a powerful effect on how safe, settled and supported we feel within our bodies.
Using feathers, scalp combs, soft brushes and light touch, these experiences stimulate specialised sensory pathways associated with relaxation, comfort and connection. Many mothers describe this as one of the most deeply calming parts of the ritual.
This type of touch may help encourage the release of oxytocin and support the body's natural relaxation response, creating a sense of stillness, comfort and ease.
For some women, this becomes their favourite part of the ritual. Others discover they prefer deeper forms of touch and support.
Preferences are always discussed at the beginning of your session. If sensory touch does not feel right for you, this time can simply be woven into another element of the ritual that your body responds to more deeply.
-
Beautiful affirmations and guided visualisations are woven throughout the ritual to encourage trust, confidence and connection as you prepare for birth.
Designed to help promote a positive mindset whilst creating a sense of calm, safety and reassurance around the journey ahead.
-
Wrapped in soft fabric and gently supported, Cocooning combines containment, rhythmic movement, breath and guided relaxation to encourage deep rest and integration.
Inspired by the body’s natural response to rhythm and feeling held, it creates a sense of safety and comfort that allows both body and mind to soften.
Many women describe it as feeling held, nurtured and cared for in a way they have not experienced for a very long time.
-
Deep rest is an essential part of the ritual, not an afterthought.
Integration is simply the process of giving your body and mind time to absorb the care, support and attention they have received.
During this time, additional comforts such as a warmed eye pillow and other supportive sensory elements may be offered to encourage a deeper sense of relaxation and ease.
Often, it is within these quiet moments that the deepest shifts occur.
-
Simple practices selected specifically for you to continue using throughout pregnancy and into the postnatal period.
This may include breathwork, grounding techniques, sensory regulation tools or other nervous system practices that your body responded particularly well to during the ritual
Supporting you to feel calmer, more connected and more confident in caring for yourself through the transition into motherhood.

Time is taken to arrive slowly, settle into the space, enjoy refreshments and move through each element of the ritual at an unrushed pace.
While the hands-on experience lasts around 90 minutes, I recommend allowing up to 2 hours from arrival to departure so that nothing feels rushed.
This is not simply a massage appointment, but a complete experience designed to leave you feeling deeply rested, nurtured and restored.
