PREGNANCY RITUAL
Perhaps one of the most overlooked aspects of birth preparation is the nervous system of the mother.
Here you are nurtured, supported and held.
So that when the time comes, you can meet birth feeling more grounded, connected and able to trust the wisdom of your body.
IN EXPERIENCED HANDS
Far more than a traditional pregnancy massage, this ritual has been thoughtfully designed as a multi-sensory experience for both body and nervous system.
Robyn Ablott weaves together therapeutic massage, perinatal bodywork, breath-led movement, nervous system regulation, sensory exploration and restorative rest to create an experience that supports both body and nervous system in equal measure.
With a Master’s degree in Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation and extensive training in pregnancy, postpartum rehabilitation, therapeutic massage and breathwork, every element has been carefully chosen to support the changing needs of pregnancy.
Every Pregnancy Ritual is individually adapted to support both the physical changes of pregnancy and the nervous system carrying them.
THE MOTHER COMES FIRST
So much is prepared for the baby.
Yet one of the most important things is often overlooked.
The nervous system of the mother.
Because long before a baby understands words, they experience the world through her touch, her voice, her breathing, her emotions and her presence.
A mother’s nervous system helps create the environment within which a baby grows and later experiences the world. Its influence can be felt far beyond pregnancy, helping shape a child’s earliest experiences of safety, connection and emotional wellbeing.
This ritual is an opportunity to nurture the person they will know first.
THE ARRIVAL
Step inside the cocoon and allow the subtle aroma of essential oils to immediately soften your mind.
Settle into your seat as a soft blanket is wrapped around your shoulders while you sip from your choice of a comforting warm drink. A small menu of thoughtfully blends has been carefully curated - from herbal infusion teas and ceremonial cacao to warm, frothy drinks infused with vanilla, cinnamon and oat milk.
As you relax, we’ll take a moment to talk through your pregnancy journey so far - how you’ve been feeling, what support you need most right now, and any preferences or concerns you’d like the experience tailored around.
This is your time to arrive, exhale, and be cared for before the ritual begins.
THE GROUNDING
Feet lower into warm water as it is slowly poured over tired, hard-working feet.
Notice the warmth of soft towels, the subtle scent of essential oils and the beauty of rose petals drifting around your toes.
Each element is layered…
Inviting your senses to settle and your body begin to exhale.
THE SHEDDING
Your body begins to move.
Not exercise, but instinctive, breath-led release - natural and unforced.
Rocking.
Swaying.
Breathing.
Gentle spinal waves.
Pelvic tilts.
Soft, flowing movements designed to create space within a body that is constantly adapting and changing.
A way of releasing tension from the hips, pelvis, ribcage and spine whilst allowing excess energy to move through the body rather than remain held within it.
A way of shedding what has been carried through guided, embodied movement.
These same movements are often used throughout labour, helping you build familiarity with the rhythms of your body before birth.
There is no pressure here, only an invitation.
THE HOLDING
As the experience deepens, the floor space becomes a place of slowing down.
Touch becomes immersive, rhythmic and beautifully caring.
And your body begins to drop into a deeper state of regulation.
Most women rarely get to experience being held and cared for in this way.
Hair play.
Cradling.
Rocking.
Swaying.
Fabric-assisted rocking and gentle bodywork.
Breath moving with breath.
As your body softens into the support behind you, your baby is held too.
A nest within a nest.
This is co-regulation at its deepest level.
Where the nervous system settles through rhythm, slowness, flow, connection and a devotional presence.
THE DESCENT
The experience deepens further onto the massage table.
A nurturing full-body pregnancy massage unfolds.
A slow descent out of your mind, and back into your body.
Long, flowing strokes move continuously across the body
Creating a sense of safety, connection and ease.
Attention naturally lingers where pregnancy often asks the most of us.
The hips.
The lower back.
The ribcage that has been making space.
The shoulders carrying more than their share.
Gentle, intuitive bodywork encourages areas of bracing to soften.
Creating more space to breathe, move and rest.
This is often the moment time begins to disappear.
Where thoughts become quieter.
Breathing becomes deeper.
And the body remembers how to let go.
Rested, held, and far away from the outside world.
FEATHERLIGHT
The experience transitions into sensory touch.
Feathers.
Wooden scalp combs.
Soft brushes drifting across the skin.
Gentle, slow, intentional touch.
Creating waves of sensation -
Tingles travelling from spine to scalp,
Down your arms to the tips of each finger.
ASMR-inspired.
Drawing your body deeper into stillness.
Quietening the mind and guiding your body towards a restful, meditative state.
For some, this can feel incredibly soothing.
Others may prefer deeper touch.
Everything is guided by choice.
Time is taken at the beginning to understand what feels right for you - with full consent and space to adjust at any point.
In a season where so much attention is focused on caring for the baby, Featherlight offers a rare opportunity to simply receive.
Providing a familiar feeling of safety, comfort and profound nurturing.
THE COCOON
At the heart of the experience is the cocoon.
Held within layers of soft fabric while the body is gently supported.
Rocked
Contained
Held
A moment for complete surrender.
Visualisations and affirmations are woven throughout.
Offering words of reassurance, trust and encouragement as you prepare for the journey ahead.
There is something both symbolic and physiological here.
The cocoon reflects transformation -
a transition, a becoming.
But it also offers something the nervous system recognises instantly.
Rhythm,
Containment.
Gentle movement.
Proprioceptive and vestibular input -
working together to bring the body into a state of safety.
A subtle echo of the womb…
our first experience of being held.
THE EMERGENCE
You will emerge slowly with no need to rush back into the outside world.
Infused water.
A small nourishing snack.
Stillness.
For those who wish to carry this feeling beyond the ritual, simple pregnancy self-care practices may be shared with you afterwards - breathwork, guided movement and self-massage techniques.
Tools you can return to throughout the remainder of your pregnancy and into labour itself, helping you feel more connected to your body and confident in your ability to support yourself through the journey ahead.
You leave feeling more connected to yourself and your baby.
Shoulders softened.
Jaw relaxed.
Breathing deeper.
Mind quieter.
Often with a renewed sense of trust in the body that has carried you this far.
This state of softness, safety and surrender is often considered one of the most supportive places from which to approach birth.
WOVEN THROUGHOUT THE RITUAL
FOR YOUR BODY
-
An opening ritual which helps ease the transition from the outside world.
Warm water signals to the body that it is safe to slow down.
A gentle foot cleanse and massage, is combined with soothing aromas and comforting sensory elements.
-
A combination of gentle rocking, swaying, breath-led movement and flowing mobility practices designed to release tension, encourage relaxation and create space within the body.
Often used throughout labour, these movements help foster familiarity, confidence and trust in your body’s innate wisdom.
-
Very different from traditional pregnancy massage, perinatal bodywork uses targeted hands-on techniques to support the physical changes of pregnancy.
Performed fully clothed, it helps create greater comfort, ease and freedom of movement within the body as it prepares for birth, with particular attention given to areas such as the pelvis, hips, ribcage and diaphragm.
You may choose to receive both perinatal bodywork and a full body massage. However, for those who choose not to receive the full body massage, this element can be used as a standalone form of therapeutic support within this ritual.
-
For those who wish to receive it, a nurturing full-body pregnancy massage designed to help you slow down, soften and reconnect with your body.
Long, flowing strokes encourage deep relaxation whilst gently soothing the areas that pregnancy often asks the most of.
Using supportive bolsters, pillows and carefully adapted positioning, every effort is made to ensure you feel completely comfortable, supported and at ease throughout the experience.
-
Gentle mobility flows and self-massage techniques personalised to your body.
Simple practices to help create more comfort, ease and freedom of movement throughout pregnancy whilst building confidence in your ability to support yourself.
Designed to support you beyond the ritual, many can be returned to during labour as familiar tools for comfort, movement and connection.
-
Thoughtfully chosen refreshments woven throughout the ritual, from warming drinks on arrival to infused water and a nourishing snack before you leave.
A final invitation to slow down, replenish and emerge slowly back into the outside world.
-
Breath is far more than a relaxation tool.
Guided breathing practices are used to improve ribcage mobility, restore healthy breathing mechanics and encourage a more balanced relationship between the diaphragm, core and pelvic floor.
These foundations can have a profound impact on comfort, movement and body awareness throughout pregnancy whilst also providing valuable skills for labour and postnatal recovery.
FOR YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM
-
One of the most powerful tools you can carry beyond the ritual, supporting nervous system regulation throughout pregnancy and offering a familiar anchor to return to during labour and birth.
-
At the heart of the ritual is the belief that when a mother feels safe, supported and regulated, everything else becomes a little easier.
Science-informed practices are woven throughout the experience to support the nervous system and encourage a state of calm, safety and connection.
This state of regulation not only influences how we experience daily life, but is also considered one of the most supportive foundations from which to approach labour and birth.
-
Soothing sensory touch experiences designed to calm the nervous system through slow, intentional sensation.
Using feathers, scalp combs, soft brushes and light touch, they encourage a state of deep relaxation, stillness and comfort.
For some women, this becomes their favourite part of the entire ritual. Others discover they prefer deeper forms of touch and support.
Preferences are always discussed at the beginning of your session. If sensory touch does not feel right for you, this time can simply be woven into another element of the ritual that your body responds to more deeply.
-
Beautiful affirmations and guided visualisations are woven throughout the ritual to encourage trust, confidence and connection as you prepare for birth.
Designed to help promote a positive mindset whilst creating a sense of calm, safety and reassurance around the journey ahead.
-
The final moments of the ritual are intentionally unhurried, allowing your body and nervous system time to absorb and integrate the experience.
Often leaving you feeling calmer, softer, more connected and better able to carry that feeling forward into pregnancy, labour and beyond.
-
Simple practices selected specifically for you to continue using throughout pregnancy and into the postnatal period.
This may include breathwork, grounding techniques, sensory regulation tools or other nervous system practices that your body responded particularly well to during the ritual
Supporting you to feel calmer, more connected and more confident in caring for yourself through the transition into motherhood.
-
Wrapped in soft fabric and gently supported, Cocooning combines containment, rhythmic movement, breathwork and affirmations to encourage deep relaxation and integration.
Inspired by the nervous system’s natural response to gentle pressure, rhythm and feeling held, it creates a profound sense of safety, comfort and surrender tOof the ritual.
-
Perhaps the most unique part of the ritual, Therapeutic Holding is a deeply nurturing form of touch therapy combining cradling, rocking, rhythmic movement, supportive holds and sensory touch.
Inspired by the science of co-regulation, it helps the nervous system settle through rhythm, containment and connection - encouraging a deep sense of safety, comfort and being held.
A rare opportunity to soften, surrender and experience being cared for in a way most women rarely receive.
